The Children and Family Center is a neighborhood-based resource center, committed to serving families in the diverse and vibrant Fontenelle neighborhood of North Omaha.
Parent Support Services include: in-home services, crisis intervention, educational classes, support groups, and information & referral assistance in accessing community resources.
(Ongoing) “Ready, Set…Deliver!” (RSD) educates parents on the labor process, labor support, pain management, labor symptoms, prevention of preterm labor, and recognizing maternal depression.
(Monthly) “Baby Talk I & II” (BT) provides information on infant development, breastfeeding, bathing, diapering, child illness, car seat safety, sleep safety, and SIDS/SUID in 2 class sessions.
(Monthly) “Toddler Talk” focuses on skills for positive interaction, preventing negative behaviors, alternatives to physical discipline, toilet training, safety, sleep, and the importance of routine and play.
(Monthly) “Baby Chat” provides a support group for parents of infants and toddlers and allows parents to interact with and support each other with the guidance of a child development specialist.
(Monthly) Parent/Child Activity groups allow for positive interactions between the child and parents in a fun environment.
(Monthly) “Boot Camp for New Dads” provides basic childcare and safety information for new and expectant fathers and can be used both in group settings and one-to-one in the home with fathers.
(Quarterly) Doula Services: A trained doula will be available to physically and emotionally support pregnant mothers before, during, and after labor, providing information and empowering the mother to make educated decisions regarding her labor and delivery.
(Ongoing) “Teen Chat” program develops self-empowerment skills, pro-social relationship skills, positive self-image, and provides a framework for goal-setting. The program focuses on human sexuality and physical development, increasing knowledge about risks associated with sexual activity--specifically HIV/AIDS--and preventative methods.
Monthly) “Teen Chat Girls: Real Life Situations” will be an expanded program in the 2010 summer to serve girls ages 13-18 who are referred by probation or the Juvenile Assessment Center.
(As scheduled) “Supporting Parents of Teenage Mothers (SPOTM)” will provide quarterly education/support groups for relative caregivers focused on building their parenting skills, and forming relationships with other families/resources.
